#Plasma-Italia

Plasma-Italia is an initiative promoted by the Italian National Blood Centre in collaboration with the national Associations and Federations of voluntary blood donors AVIS, Italian Red Cross, FIDAS and FRATRES aimed to raise the awareness about the importance of regular, voluntary, unpaid and responsible donations of plasma as well as to describe how plasma-derived medicinal products are produced from national plasma.

The National Plasma and Plasma-derived medicinal products Programme

In 2016, the first national Plasma and Plasma-derived Medicinal Products Programme was issued in the light of both the increase of plasma collection and the promotion of the appropriate use of Plasma and Plasma-derived medicinal products.

The Programme identifies the reference principles and the strategic objectives for the period 2016-2020 with the overarching goal of national self-sufficiency of plasma and plasma-derived medicinal products.

It’s possible to donate blood or plasma

There are no first or second class donations. Blood donation is as much important as plasma donation. They both allow daily blood therapies to many patients.

The voice of donors, patients and institutions

We asked patients, donors and institutions for information on the donation of plasma and its modalities, the clinical use of plasma or of plasma-derived medicinal products, and how the donation is promoted.

LEGISLATION

Blood and plasma are precious and limited resources characterised by a significant ethical value since they are both donated by voluntary, responsible and unpaid donors.
The plasma and plasma-derived medicinal products system is strictly regulated by an extensive European and national legislation including both laws regarding transfusion activities and wider regulations mainly referring to the Community code on medicinal products for human use.
